Late Saturday, the accident site buzzed with activity as NDRF personnel used gas cutters to enter compartments and search for survivors. Over 1,100 people were rescued, with nearly 500 receiving treatment at local hospitals. Fire Services Director General Sudhanshu Sarangi praised the state government's investment in upgrading capacity and equipment. The challenge lay in coordinating personnel from various locations. The NDRF and local volunteers played a crucial role in the rescue operation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited the site. The collision severely damaged several coaches, resulting in numerous casualties. The cause of the accident, including the track change by the Coromandel Express, needs further investigation.
