B.R. Ambedkar, also known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer. He was born on April 14, 1891 in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh into an "untouchable" caste. Despite facing discrimination, he earned a law degree from Columbia University and a doctorate in economics from the University of London. Ambedkar was a leading voice in the Dalit movement and fought against the caste system. He served as India's first Law Minister and was the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. His birth anniversary is celebrated as a national holiday in India and he is revered as a hero and champion of social justice and equality.
