E Jean Carroll, who won a USD 5 million award against Donald Trump, filed a lawsuit seeking an additional USD 10 million in compensatory damages. Her lawyers claim that Trump's remarks after the verdict damaged her reputation and caused her to lose her job. They argue that his post-verdict statements demonstrate malice and seek punitive damages to punish him and deter further defamation. The jury found that Trump had sexually abused Carroll but did not prove rape. The new claims were filed while an appeals court considered Trump's liability for his 2019 remarks. Trump's lawyer declined to comment on the new claims.
