Timeline of IC-814 :


- December 24, 1999: Indian Airlines Flight 814 (IC-814) is hijacked by five terrorists belonging to Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.

- The hijackers demand the release of several militants held in Indian prisons.

- The hijacked plane is flown to several destinations, including Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai, before landing in Kandahar, Afghanistan, which is then under Taliban control.

- December 27, 1999: India's External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Chaman Lal Gupta fly to Kandahar to negotiate with the hijackers.

- December 31, 1999: India agrees to release three militants in exchange for the release of the hostages.

- January 1, 2000: India releases the militants, Maulana Masood Azhar, Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, and Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who are flown to Kandahar.

- January 2, 2000: The hostages are released and flown to Delhi on a special aircraft.
