A team of researchers led by Indian scientist Dr. Abhijit Chakraborty at the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad has made a significant discovery in the field of exoplanet research. The team used the PRL Advanced Radial-velocity Abu-sky Search (PARAS) spectrograph to detect a new exoplanet in orbit around a star located 725 light years away. The planet, known as TOI 1789b or HD 82139b, is approximately 70% the mass of Jupiter and 1.4 times its size. It has a surface temperature of up to 2000 K and orbits its host star in just 3.2 days at a distance of 0.05 AU. This discovery provides valuable insights into the formation and evolution of planetary systems around aging stars.
