"Rebels Attack Indian Army Vehicle, Five Soldiers Killed"

Writer's picture: WORLD IN PRINTWORLD IN PRINT

In Kashmir, militants ambushed an Indian army vehicle, killing five soldiers and seriously injuring another, according to the military. The attack occurred near the highly militarized Line of Control that separates Indian and Pakistani-administered parts of Kashmir. Rebel groups have been fighting since 1989 for Kashmir’s independence or merger with Pakistan, a goal supported by most Muslim Kashmiris. The Indian government accuses Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism in Kashmir, while Pakistan denies the charge. The conflict has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people.
