Fierce fighting between the Sudanese army and paramilitary forces in Khartoum has resulted in the death of 56 civilians and injuries to 595 people. Among the dead is an Indian national. The clashes arose after tensions between the Rapid Support Forces and the military over the transition to civilian rule. The United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have called for an immediate end to hostilities. The UN Secretary General also urged both parties to end the violence. The conflict began in April 2019 after the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir.
